At the Police C<urt to-day James Johnstone, for a breach of the Eailway regulations* by Retting on the train while in motion, was fined 5s and costs. Serious charges are being made regarding the management of the Industrial Home. Several ladies of the old Committee write charging the master and matron with negligence and irreguWities. An inquiry is pending. Yesterday judgment w.as obtained in the li.M. Court agaiust the ship Earl Granville, now in LyMelton, for short j delivery.' The Fire Brigade have sent to England for an electric telegraph apparatus. There are several fresh cases of forging and uttering. The case of salting customs invoices is still under the consideration of the CroWn Prosecutor. The goods were seized by the customs. The Golden Crown shares suddenly rose | to 21s yesterday iv consequence of reported new discoveries. They fell again to 16s. A fire occurred in Ford's tailor's shop, Queen street, eariy this morning. It was promptly extinguished. Damage was only slight. , Kewi refused to receive the house built at Kihikihi under the authority of the late Government unless crown granted. He retracts all authority given over his lands, and says he will aloue exercise mana.
