. The anniversary soiree connected Vt ith the above was held last even' ig. The neat little church was crowded, and. after the tea things had been cleared away, the Rev. T. L. Davies, pastor of the congregation, took the chair, and ; announced that the subject chosen for the evening was "Prayer," and each speaker would address those present on the \ different branches of the subject. Having briefly opened the subject, he called on Mr Whitehead to read the annual report of the congregation, which showed that the number on the Church roll was 108. Those gentlemen who had filled the pulpit when the Church was without a pastor were thanked, and also Miss Lamb for her serriees at the harmonium.
Mr Rensbaw read the annual balancesheet, which showed an income of £208 19s 4d, £173 3s of which had been raised *by Sunday collections. The expenditure included repayment of loans to the amount of £80. There was now a balance in the bank of £1 Is lOd, end the Church had become clear of debt, but bad just incurred another in repairing end. making additions to the pastor's house by members of the congregation. ; The Rev. Laishley, after briefly intro* ducing the subject, said that prayer was the first and most holy sign of spiritual life, the first intimation of God's sprit operating on the soul. Prayer was one of the greatest powers and privileges of man on earth. Its essential elements were faith in God, and also faith in the efficacy of prayer itself, besides humanity, submission to Divine will, aid holiness of life..' ■: .'.■•■■■■■: ■" V. ', ■'' ;
The Ber. A. W. Webb was the next speaker, his portion of the subject being, " Is prayer in harmony with divine law P" He treated the subject ably, and in' concluding warned his hearers not to permit their souls to be paralysed by unbelief. The Bevs. Messrs Adamson and Watkin also spoke, and were attentively listened to. .. , .... ■■'■ ■■ ' ■■ ■ The proceedings concluded after a rote of thanks had been accorded to the ladies, the choir, etc. ,
