Melbourne Exhibition Committee.

A meeting of the above Committee was held this afternoon in the Borough offices. f Present: Messrs Dean (Chairman), Brodie, Porter, Brown,

The minutes of last meeting were read and confirmed.

Mr Dean declined to take the chair, and Mr Brodie was voted to. the chair.

THE EXHIBITION.

A letter was read, in which it was stated that the work of the building was being rapidly procreded with.- The committee were of opinion that the Exhibition should be kept open in the evening, and that the sale of exhibits in the building be allowed. The commission would allow a 1 sum of from £10 to £15. .-

Mr Brodie sajd that was not enough. A letter was read from Mr Barlow, on behalf of Mr Bennett, asking permission to exhibit a block of raw hematite, proTided it could be properly fashioned by some of the workmen of the Borough Council. The Jetter concluded—" I have no doubt Mr Eawdon would do the work if the proposal is looked on favorably."

Mr Brodie said that it was gratifying to see that the efforts of the late Committee in the Sydney Exhibition had been so well appreciated as coming from such an autnority as Mr Bryce Baio. Mr Plant had been induced to disburse money, which he had never received repayment of. He thought that the money should be repaid, otherwise the local exhibiting would suffer in consequence. Mr Plant had some very beautiful specimens of pottery, but he did not think he would send his exliibts to the Melbourne exhibition after being treated in the way he had by the late commission. He moved "That a representation be made to the Government to induce them to recoup Mr Plant." Carried. It was moved by Mr Browne, seconded by Mr Wilkinson, "That the Secretary be requested to write to the several exhibitors at the Sydney Exhibition, and request that their exhibits be sent through ihe local Committee." Mr Wilkinson moved that it is desirable that the Thames should be represented at the Melbourne Exhibition by a case of auriferous specimens and mineral ores, and that the secretary be requested to communicate with gentlemen interested in the matter on the subject. Carried. It was also resolved to advertise for such articles for exhibition as are not offered.

On the motion of Mr Brown a hearty vote of thanks was accorded to Mr Dean, hon. secretary to the Sydney iSxliibition Committee, for his exertions. - A vote of thanks to the chair brought the business to a close.
