Thames High School.

A meeting of the Governors of the Thames High School, was held at -the Borou3:i Chambers, .Albert street this morning. In the absence of the Chairman of the Board, L. Ehrenfried Esq., the chair was taken by Dr Kilgour.

A letter was read from Mr G. T. Wilkinson of the Native Land Purchase Department, stating that there was no impediment in the way of handing over the endowment in so far as any Native difficulty went. Mr Brodie informed the Board of the steps taken by himself and the Chairman since last meeting in this matter, and after some discussion it was decided to send a telegram to the Sur-veyor-General, Mr McKerrow, asking him what'further steps he had taken in the matter and impressing on him the importance of the Board being in a position to deal with the reserve at once.

Mr Brodie spoke at some length on the delay that had taken place in this matter, and thought that, inasmuch as the Board had been deprived of any income from the reserve, an income which the Governors had fully counted on, they would be perfectly justified in asking Government to aid them pecuniarily. He therefore moved that a letter be sent to the Minister of Education, pointing out to him the disadvantage under which the Board laboured in not haying an income from the endowment, which should have been handed over to them months ago, and asking that a sum of money be placed on the. Estimates so as to enable them to meet their engagements.

Mr Marshall seconded the proposition, which was carried unanimously.

The question of a musical taacher then came up for consideration, and it was eventually decided to call for applications from duly qualified persons to' fill the position. ...

It was decide! that arrangements should be made for the Scholarships given by the Chairman and Mr Speight, to be competed for during the ensuing month, and Dr Kilgour was appointed to have the entire management of the examination.
