Saturday. At the half yearly meeting of the Canterbury Jockey Club, held to-day, it was stated that the accounts shewed £4562 paid in Stakes during the two meetings in the year, and after paying all matured liabilities, the committee had a credit balance in hand of £600. Wilh this sum, by overdrawing their account, an amount of £216, they had been enabled to pay off the balance of the cost of construction of the railway line to the race-course, leaving the line now clear. A resolution was passed instructing the new committee to take steps for the erection of a large grand stand, when the requisite financial arrangements can bo made. The statement of accounts showed that refunds, amounting to £329, had been paid. The committee said the receipts connected with the review had been very good. A notice of motion was given for the appointment of a handi* capper, at a substantial salary, to attend the various race meetings of the colony, who would neither own nor back or be in an; way interested in the earnings of horses, the appointment to be made in co-operation with the leading clubs of the colony.
