The New Electoral Roll.

To-day the new roll for the Electoral District of Thames comes into force; and it is now open for inspection at the office of the Eeßistrar, Mr A. J. Allom. The Hew list of electors contains 2505 names, as against some 4500 odd last year, so that it may be supposed Mr Allom has purged the roll oi all such' impurities as dead men, absentees, and disfranchised natives, and the adjective " rotten " can no longer be prefixed to it. The compilation ot the roll, however, is by no means yet complete, indeed Mr Allom informs us that he expects during the next six weeks to add 500 additional names of bona fide electors. Prior to the appointment*of the committee to assist Mr Allom in his work of enrolment, that gentleman had been engaged making enqairies, and a large number of the new names handed in by the Committee had already been inserted by the registrar. We are informed that considerable surprise was expressed by the authorities at the number of application forms used by this district; but though our roll may exceed in numbers what some of our " friends " wished.it to be, we must confess to a feeling of disappointment that it is not larger. Hardly anything would conduce so much to the welfare of the district as being possessed of a good voting power.
