The* case Smith v. Palmer, claiming three thousand pounds damages for breach of contract,. has closed at" the Supreme Court, and the jury has awarded one farthing damages.

Sir George Grey is expected from the Kawau next Tuesday, when he* will address a meeting at the Theatre Eoyal.

A girl named Annie Wallace, aged three years and five months, has been fatally burned at Himua. Indecent Assault. At the Police Court to-day, Charles Alexander Martin was charged with indecently assaulting Bachel Fletcher. The case was adjourned in consequence of" the absence of witnesses. Bail was allowed. The Totalisator Cases. - Henry Richardson, James Corbett, Eichard James Feltus, and Leonard Adams were charged under the Vagrant Act with playing with a totalisator at a game of chance on the Ellerslie course. The totalisator was produced in Court.

The charge against Feltus was withdrawn, as he. was'only engaged, as clerk.

Francis Short, hairdresser, deposed that he paid 10s for a ticket on King Quail, three other tickets were taken. He went to watch the race. King Quail won. When he returned, the totalisa'.or proprietor «ffered him a fourteenth share. A dispute ensued, aud the proprietor said someone had altered the number. Eventually he got his £12.
