HAWERA.
The "Waimato Plains.
This day.
Mr Hursthourse, engineer in charge of the road works, has just returned from exploring and cutting the tracks from Stratford to Opunake, along the foot of Mount Egmont. He describes the country as being very level, with rivers running near the surface level, and easy to cross. The land is of very rich quality. The Constabulary at Oeo shift today ten miles further north. The road works are now advancing rapidly towards completion, and all unnecessary clearing has been put a stop to. It is reported that the Constabulary at Werekino will also advance today a few miles north.
