RESIDENT MAGISTRATE'S COURT
THIS DAY. (Before H. Kenrick, Esq., 8.M.) DRUNKENNESB. Charles Jones was fined 10s and costs for being drunk and disorderly in Pollen street yesterday afternoon. The Magistrate, in fining the prisoner, said the latter was very foolish to get intoxicated in a public place, when he had a considerable amount of money on him. THE TABARU FIRE. Andrew Carney was charged with a breach of the Borough bye-law, by setting fire to a quantity of rubbish in his garden on the Tararu road on the 17th inst, he not having previously given notice to the Town Clerk. The defendant said be had committed the offence in total ignorance that such a bye-law existed. It was stated that the bye-law was framed to prevent unnecessary alarms.of fire. When notice of rubbish burning was given to the Town Clerk, he gave notice to the police, who were then placed on their guard. When the brigade arrived at Mr Carney's place he expressed no sorrow, but made a joke of it, saying that the brigade wanted something to make them " turn out." '. The defendant denied this statement.. The Magistrate said that it was absolutely necessary that before any rubbish could be burned in a garden notice must be given to the Town Clerk. The defendant would be fined Is and costs.
William Meek was fined Is and costs for allowing his chimney to be on fire. This was all the business.,
