NAPIER.
This day. At the Education Board yesterday a summary of school attendances was read showing for the quarter ending 31st March 1579 males, and 1413 females, or a total of 2992. The average attendance was 2244, corresponding quarter of last year the average attendance was 1686. At the Harbor Board meeting yesterday the following resolution was passed, "That arrangements made by the pilot for taking off the San Francisco mails to the Eotoiua on the 28th ult. were faulty and "showed a want of forethought and energy. In future the postmaster, if an emergency arises for using the lifeboat, should communicate with the chairman or secretary of the Harbor Board. '_ Three children, aged ten, seven, and five were brought before the E.M. this morning charged with being neglected children. The father of the children ia an old offender, and t ho mother died while the father was iu-gaol. The children have been kept by the nuns since. They were ordered to be sent to the Nelson Industrial School.
