The admirable smartness exhibited by the fire brigades in turning out to the fire in Mackay street early this morning was very praiseworthy. The men do not receive anything besides their clothes from the Borough, and very few would inconvenience themselves so much without monetary remuneration. The funds of the Fire' Brigades are getting low, and an appeal will shortly be made to the generosity of the public, who, hope, will contribute liberally towards such a good object. The firemen are always willing to put themselves, to great trouble in o^der to save life and property from fire, and the least the public can do* it to show their appreciation of their efforts by liberally supporting them.
