A fire broke out at one o'clock this morning in a three-roomed cottage in Cuba street. When the flames were first observed, they had a good hold, and the building was totally destroyed. ■ The house was empty, the inmates having removed the previous day. How the fire originated is unknown. The cottage was owned by Mr Henn, and was insured for £150 iv the South British.
Heavy fine for Sunday Trading. The proprietor of the Victoria Hotel was fined £5 for Sunday trading.
At the Supreme. Court the case of Multane y. O'Malley, an action in which plaintiff claims £1000 damages for injuries sustained by him while blasting at the reclamation works, through alleged negligence on the part of the defendant who was the contractor, is proceeding.
Colonial Insurance Company.
It is stated that the Colonial Insurance Company will declare a dividend of ten per cent at the annual meeting to be held on Monday. The report is also said to be satisfactory.
