In the Legislative Assembly last night, the Bill to define the powers of the Legislative Council was read a second time. Sir Henry Parkes, Premier, stated he would proceed no further with the Bill until a similar measure which had been introduced in the Upper House had been dealt with.
The following Exhibition awards have benn announced :—Furniture — Seufert, of Auckland, specially commended, first class; Large and Townley, Napier, and Carl Peters, Wellington, second class; Guthrie and. Larnach, Dunedin, and Nicholson, Wellington, third class; Burt, of Dunedin, first class award forgasaHers; Peterson, Christchurch, (special) for silver jug; Myers, Wellington (sic) ; Guthrie and Larnach, for a hall door. Second class awards: Greenfield and Stewart, for mantel shelf; Halley, Ewing, and Stewart, all of Wellington, for doors, and Sandstein, of Christchurch, for epergne. Third class awards : Scott, for stoves; :Child and White, Christchurch, for cane work.
Arrived: Hero, from Auckland, yesterday.
