RESIDENT MAGISTRATE'S COURT
THIS DAY.
(Before H. Kenriek, Esq., 8.M.) DBUNKENKBSB.
Two persons were charged with this offence, one was remanded for medical treatment and the other fined 5s and oosts.
ASSAULT,
Alexander Bruce was charged with assaulting George Cribb on the 31st of March iv Pollen street, Shortland.
George Cribb, sworn, deposed that the accused without anjr cause from him commenced calling him insulting names on the date mentioned and ended by kicking him. Detective Farrell gave evidence to the same effect.
His Worship said he would have to inflict a heavy penalty, for the assault seemed a most unprovoked one, the sentence would be £5 .and costs, or one month's imprisonment.
BAD LANGUAGE, Alexander Brace was charged by Detective Farrell with using, on the 31st March last obscene language in a public place—Pollen street, Shortland. _ The Detective, and George Cribb gave evidence of the language used. His Worship said there was no doubt the language was used, and in order to teach the defendant a lesson, the sentence would be one month's imprisonment in Shortland gaol—the sentence to run concurrently with that of the former case. Court adjourned. ;
