The Drainage.
It is now about 4 weeks since the Big Pump commenced work, though it has been since stopped for 5 or 6 days for repairs to one of the clacks. Since the commencement of pumping operations the average weekly diminution of water has been 32 feet, making the total reduction up to date 130 feet. The water is still 34 feet above the Caledonian Wo. 3 level. The Mining Underviewer made his fortnightly measurement ■ to-day, and found the water to be 241 feet from the sill, last measurement (a fortnight ago) 239; Prince Imperial, 232 feet, last measurement 223; Crown Princess, 230 feet, last measurement 222 feet; Piako, 211 feet, last measurement 20O| feet. The slight diminution in the Pump shaft is of course attributable to the water making during the stoppage, the effects of which however, have not yet beeu
appreciably felt in the other shafts, in consequence of the tim* it takes for the water to percolate through the bar between the Pump and Prince Imperial . shafts.
