The Races
Wo conclude our report of yesterday's race meeting :— PONY BACE, 5 aove. Distance, three time* round the Courae (14'uaods or under), Poet Entry, 10s. Ooromandei's Dispatch, 7st. 71 bs ... 1 Paraku's Bobtail, Bst 71ba 2 Dufty's Poute.Tewin, 7st ... ... 3 Shaw's Cannibal, Bst 121bs 0 Sherlock's Queen Bess 0 An attempt was made to enter Venus for this race, but it was found she could not go under the stand. Cannibal was objected to as being over the standard height, but it was decided by the stewards that he was qualified. On coming to the starting point Mr Casey got the mokes away well together, Dispatch leading and Cannibal last. Dispatch maintained the lead throughout.the race, and-though closely pressed by Bobtail at the finish came in a winner by a couple of lengths. Queen Bess bolted off the course soon after starting.
CONSOLATION HANDICAP, 10 soys. Distance, 1J miles 5 post entry, 30» (for . all beaten Horses at Ibis Meeting). Mr R. Taylor's Eclipse ... . ... ■ 1 Mr Owen McGee's Bundarra < ... 2 This was the finest race of the day. There was some delay at the start through the friskiness of Eclipse, but when Mr Casey gave the signal to start both horses got away well together. Eclipse, howerer, forged .slowly ahead and kept a slight lead throughout. Coming up the
straight both riders flogged hard, but Bundarra was unable to recover the lost ground, and had to submit to a defeat. .
This concluded the programme of the day's races, and the Hibernian Society headed by the band again formed a procession and marched to town. The day's sport was most enjoyable.
