Visit of the Hon. Mr Rolleston.

This morning Mr Eolleiton, accompanied by His Worship the Mayor, Mr Speight, M.H.8., Dr Kilgour, and Mr McCullougb, as Prosident of the Hospital Committee, visited the Thames Hospital and Old Men's Home. Mr Eolleston made a number of enquiries respecting the position of the Hospital, and its maintenance, the average number of patients, &c , and appeared pleased with the general appearance of the Wards, the suitability of all the appointments, and the manner in which the business of the imti-. tution was carried on.

The Hif;h School buildings were next visited, when the requirements of the Board of Governors was brought under the Minister's notice, and Ihe necessity for an increased area of ground was pointed out. It is probable that provision will be made by the Government next session for High School purposes. The Kauacranga Girls' School, the Boys' School, and "the Waio-Karaka School "were visited in succession, Mr liolleston examining the exercise books of the pupils and making a number of enquiries into the mode of general working. He seemed particularly pleased with the clean and tidy . appearance of the children, the orderly and systematic manner in which the teachers conducted their work. Mr Eolleston, as Minister for Education takes the greatest interest in school matters, and expressed gratification at the manner in which the Act was carried out on the Thames. Mr H. C- Lawlor, Chairman of the Waio-Karaka School Committee, joined the party at the school, and afforded Mr liolleston all the info: niation he required. . The party afterwards visited the Moanatairi battery and mine, and were shown over (he latter by Mr Comer, and afterwards drove out to the Orphanage. He will meet a number of deputations on bis return. - , , :
