HAURAKI ENGINEERS.
The Hauraki Engineers were inspected last night by Colonel Leckie. There was a good muster present, under Captain Small, and Lieutenants Barlow, Denby, and Leydon. The Colonel was received at open order with a general salute, and at once proceeded with a minute inspection of arms and appointments. The rauks were then closed, and a squad was
exercised in the bayonet drill by Captain Small. The Company was told oft' and proved by the senior lieutenaut, Mr Barlow, alter which a squad was drawn up and manipulated by Lieut. Denby through sword drill. Colonel Leckie, addressing tho corps, assured them he was well satisfied with the general proficiency displayed by officers and men. The gallant officer dwelt on the necessity of soldiers being at home in the use of their weapon, and both fur shooting and for defence agaiust. the sword or bayonet.
After the departure of the Inspecting Officer, the corps headed by the band had a' short march out. We should not omit to mention that the Colonel appeared to be greatly taken up the band, and bestowed graceful. compliments on Mr O'Sullivan for the regular- time and harmony displayed.
