A musical and literary entertainment in "' aid of the building fund was hejd in the Shortland Wesleyan Sunday School last evening. Notwithstanding the rain there was a good attendance. After an anthem by the choir, the Chairman (tbe Rev. Mr Watkin) delivered an address suitable to the occasion. A piano duet was very nicely played by Misses, Watkin and Joynt. After a song by Miss Vercoe, the Superintendent of the Sunday School, Mr Ashby, addressed, the audience, detailing circumstances that had led to the erection of the School. This was followed by a song by Miss Penk, and an address by the Rev. T. L. Davies. The ohoir sanp the anthem " God be merciful " in good style, Mr McLiver rendering tbe bass solo in a feeling and finished manner. A vocal duet by Misses George and Rollerson, and a piano duet by Misses Savage and Penk followed, after which, a reading was given by Mr Nodder. - One of the most pleasing items on the programme was the flute duett by Messrs J. K. May and Vivian. The remaining items were a recitation. by Mr Kitching, songs by Misses Manton and Landy, and a glee by the choir; A vote of thanks to the singers was proposed by Mr Ashby, seconded by the Her. Mr Watkin, and carried by acclamation. The proceedings terminated with the singing of the National Anthem,
