Father Chiniquy ariived from Christchurch to-day. A large conconrse of people were on the platform. The following address was subsequently present 3d to him on behalf of the Orange* men of the District of South Canterbury: —" To the Rev. Charles ChnHquy.—We, the Orangemen m connection with the Grand Lodge of the Middle Island of New Zealand, have" gl'eat pleasure in welcoming you to our town and district. We have watched your progress through the Australian Colonies and the Northern provinces of this, our adopted, country with extreme interest, and rejoice exceedingly at (.he service you have tandercd to the Protestrnt religion. We cannot but admire the Chustian forlilude you have displayed, and hope that from the foundation laid by you a power may be ri"'Bed that will help to put down the eiror and superstition which at present is found amongst many of bur fellow men.
