Yesterday.

It is reported in town that Barkley, Government surveyor, engaged on Puketotara Block has been turned off by a party of armed natives. The land in question is up the Wanganui river. The natives took possession of the surveyor's camp.

Another report has reached town by the mail carrier betweeu Fordell and Muvimotu that shots have been exchanged between the hostile natives at the Murimotu pahs.
