Thames Goldfield Hospital.
The monthly meetiug of the general committee was held yesterday afternoon. Present—The President, Mr McCullough, in the Chair, Messrs Ehrenfried (VicePresident), Eenshaw, Rowe, Mcllhone, Wilson, JFrater, Murray, Mulligan, McGowan, and lievs. V. Lush and S. J. Neill. Apologies for absence were presented from Messrs Brassey, Comer, Aitkcn, and Davies. HOUSE COMMITTEE. The report stated that £14 had been expended in providing clothing for the I men in the Old Men's Home. The Committee recommended -that the monthly accounts £90 8s 7d, and salaries £63 14s 4d be paid ; and, further, that some steps should be taken to make members of Friendly Societies, patients in the Hospital, especially when they are single men, pay something. out of their club money for their support. Her. V. Lush moved, and Mr Frater seconded, the adoption of the report.—Carried. surgeon's kepobt. The report stated the number of patients treated during the month, aud recommended a fresh supply of sheets and blankets—about 10 pairs of each. The Surgeon suggested that the present blankets be'utilised as padding for splints, as it formed "a much more reliable palding lhan any other kind. He thanked the committee for leave of absence granted. Mr Mcllhone moved the adoption of report, and would like to have the name 3 of the 112 outdoor patients, as it was rumoured outside thai there was a great discrepancy between the numbers given aud those treated. Mr Ehrenfried seconded the motion.— Carried. tbeasubeb's repobt. The hon. Treasurer, Mr Hudson, read the monthly statement, showing accounts due for January of £90 17s lid, and for salaries of £63 14s 4d. Also statement of receipts and expenditure for the month ending January 31, viz,-.:—Re. ceipts : To balance brought forward £180 16s lid, to subscriptions and donations £21 13s, to patients' charges £7 6s 6d, to unpresented cheques £20 13s 4d; total, £230 9s 9d. Expenditure: By salaries £76 10s Bd, maintenance £39 12s 9d; medical comforts, drugs, &c, £12 2s, furniture, building, repairs, and insurance £14 3s 7d, printing and stationery £1 ss, commission £118s 9d, balance £84175, total, £230 9s 9d.-r.The assets column showed after payment of accounts passed that day, a debit balance of £90 8s 7d. The Secretary stated in reference to a charge of 1613 11s 3d occurred in keeping Bergin at the Hot Sprinjgjs.Waiirera, Mr Graham had promised to refund half the .cost. . , . Rev. S. J. Neil moved v and Mp Mulligan seconded the adoption of tht treasurer's report and balance-sheet. The President called attention to the financial position of the institution, and that a letter had been sent to the Borough Council asking for the sum of £100 required to pay the liabilities, but no reply had been received. He said that he had requested the Town Clerk to inform him when the next meeting of the Charitable Aid Committee would take place, as it was necessary the Hospital Sub-Commit* tee should understand the relative positions of the two bodies, there being some difference of opinion as to the terms of the agreement between the Borough and the Hospital Committee.
The Rev. V. Lush called attention to the defective drainage and suggested an application to the' Borough Council to have a water table laid down Mary street.
Mr Ehrenfried pointed out the cost, and said it had been suggested to have the drainage carried to the Karaka Creek, rather than down Mary street.
The matter was referred to the House Committee to report.
VISIT OF MB WHITAKEB.
Mr McCullough called attention to the rumored visit of Mr Whitaker, and suggested that he should be invited to visit the hospital and be informed of the. requirements of the institution. The matter was left in the hands of the President and Vice-President. patients' payments. The President drew -attention to the House Committee's report re payment by members of Friendly Societies and single men. After some discussion the matter was relegated to the House Committee. COBBEBPONDENCE. Mrs Power sent a long letter about her grievances. Mr Wilson proposed the letter be received. Mr Mcllhone moved as "an amendment that the words "and discussed" be added. • - •-' -- Mr Ehreufried spoke strongly against the time of the Committee being wasted over the matter of Mrs Power which-h^U-J already been so much debated. Mr Mcllhone thought' the' remarks unfair, and proceeded to give Mr JShrenfried advice, until the President had to rule the speaker out of order. : THE COOK. Mr Swindles, upon the motion of Mr Benshaw, was appointed cook at 25s per week wages. ; pigs. Mr McGowau called attention to the propriety of getting some pigs .which could be well fed by refuse from the Hospital. Several speakers agreed with the idea, and the Secretary was requested to ask Mr Bagnali, of the saw mills, if he would make a present to the Hospital of some young piga. , The Secretary was also instructed to write to the ministers of the various Churches re the annual Sunday collections. Mr Brassey's jiotice of motion was renewed by Mr Mollhone for the next meeting.
After the appointment of the House Committee the meeting closed.
