Parawai School District.
The annual meeting; of householders took place last evening at 6.JBQ, at the school-house. There was but a meagre attendance, and Mr A. Hogg was voted to the chair.
The annual report and balance-sheet was read. It stated :—
"With regard to the nomination of members of-the Board to fill the places of those retiring, the Committee considered it useless doing so, as, under the present Act, country committees will always be unrepresented on the Board, and would recommend to the incoming Committee the necessity of petitioning Parliament to have the Act amended by dividing the Auckland Educational District into subdivisions, for the purpose of electing local representatives to the Board.
"The Board of Education has appointed Mr William Johnson to the head mastership, with the sanction of the Committee, and the school is progressing very favourably under his management. " The total number of children on the rolls and the average attendance for the four quarters are as follows :—March 31 —No. on roll 97, average attendance 42; June 31—No. on roll 90, average attendance 41; September 30—No. on roll 99, average attendance 47; December 31— No. on roll 90. average attendance 60 5.
" Mr John Grigg has been appointed to teach the children music, and Mr Barlow instructs them in drill and gymnastics." The report was adopted, and the election of the committee proceeded with. The following gentlemen were elected :— Vernon, Hogg, Hansen, Spencer, Veale, Tizard, and Marshall. The customary compliments to the out-going committee and the chairman finished the business.
