Mr John Lundon, M.H.E., in a speech delivered at Kawakawa, states that the Government were far more liberal than he expected, and placed £15,000 more than he asked for on the estimates for the north of Auckland. Eewi has completely recovered from his accident, and is at Te Kopua. He says the luxuries of civilization jellies, syrups, and pastry nearly killed him with kindness. He recovered when he returned to plain Maori diet.
Good advice.
Tawhiao addressed a meeting of the principal the other day, and strongly advised them to keep aloof from Te Whiti, and said that in former times they had suffered through interfering in quarrels of others, they had lost all their lands but a few acres, and if they took up Te Whiti's cause, they would lose all the little they had, and to continue their former obstinacy would only entail disaster. ,
