Fire at Waiotahi Creek.
And yet another fire! This, the latest addition to our list of conflagrations broke out last evening, a little after 11 o'clock, in a cottage occupied by Mrs French and her tiro sons, situated up the Waiotahi creek. The only occupant at the time was the younger boy, who bad retired to rest about 10 o'clock, leaving^ candle burning. John French, the eldfr brother, had just knocked off work about the time the bell rang, and Mrs French was visiting a neighbour. Tne house was all in flames before the neighbours were alarmed, and the boy bad barely time to get out, nothing being saved. A number of the Grahamstown Brigade hurried to the fire, but by the time they reached the spot a heap of burning embers was all that was left. The building was totally uninsured, and in addition to the furnitur# *ad clothes, John French ha*
lost a sum of money which was in a box in the house. The fire is supposed to have originated from the upsetting of the lighted candle, though Mrs French believes it was caused by some of the wild young scamps of the Waiotahi creek smokiug about the house.
