Accident in the Alburnia.

A man named John Whelan met with a severe accident this morning in the above mine. He wag going to his work along the west drive on the Whau level, and forgot the existence of a small winze that was being put down, and so tumbled into it, breaking his leg a little above the ankle. The depth of the winze was only four feet, yet falling un-. expectedly into it gave the man a severe - shock besides breaking his leg. He was at once taken by his mates and placed on a stretcher and conveyed to the hospital, where his injuries were attended to.
