THE BIG PUMP QUESTION.
To the Editor of the Evening S*ab.)
Sib,—Your issue of the 7thinst., contains a paragraph stating that the owners of the Big Pump have stopped operations With a view to depreciate the surrounding properties. Allow me to contradict this statement, as I myself am the sole owner by purchase of the Pump. Pumping has been discontinued entirely on my own responsibility, not by others, as you have •tated. Everything in the shaft, has been prepared in readiness to draw the Pumps should I find it necessary to do so when the water rises to a certain level. I am., c<) f . Robt. Comee.
[We said 'fit was stated" that such was the object'in stopping the Pump. The matter has been publicly discussed, and the statements referred to by us have been made.—E. Star.]
