The Victorian Government and
the Banks.
* The Chief Secretary has consulted the Attorney-General whether the Government had power to withdraw from the Banks the Loan Fund' Aocomnt of over one million sterling, or to vary the contract. The loan in held under special agreement as a Departmental Account. The banks appear indifferent whether the Government continue with them or not, •• it it alleged a great deal of expense and troubje it incurred without any definite compensation. Juvenile Exhibition. The Melbourne Juvenile Exhibition was opened by the Marquis of Normanby on the 23rd of December, when Lady Normanby made her first public appear, ancein Melbourne. Upwards «f 20,000 exhibits were received. The collection is of .a comprehensiTe character, and calculated to display the juvenile industry of the colony. '^
