Timaru Rioters before the Bench.

Committed for Trial. | Nine of the Boxing Day rioters i appeared before a full Bench and a | crowded Court to-day. Their names | were Jeremiah Kelly, Lawrence Towers, Patrick O'Shea, Patrick O'Connor, Pat O'Keefe, Jas. Watson, Jno. Dennihey, Thoa. Moynihan, and Tho«. P. O'Priicoll.

Mr Stout appeared for the defence, and Mr White* Crown Prosecutor, prosecuted, lad the Orange Lodge was represented tj|jMr Hamersley. '"Several witnesses, principally members of the police, were examined, but the most important evidence was that of George Kimber, bootmaker, who stated that before the riot sixty men left O'Driscoll's Hotel, shouting, yelling and gesticulating, and that when the Orangemen were assailed O'Driscoll was in the thick of the mob inciting them to tear down the Orange banner, and offering a hundred pounds to those who would stop them marching. It was proved that three of the crowd had pistols in their pockets, and "two Orangemen proved to having had their 1 scarves torn off, to being tripped and , thrown down.

■ The whole of the accused were committed for trial "before the Supreme Court in March. Bail was allowed O'Driscoll in £500 and two sureties of £250 eacbfphe others in £100 and two sureties of £50. -
