Government have now about eight hundred well drilled constabulary on the West Coast*. Early in the new year orders will be given for these to cross the river at the disputed territory on to Waimate Plains, where road making will be resumed under the protection of the Constabulary, and village settlements will be laid out and occupied. The Native Minister, and probably another Minister will be on the spot and deal with emergeuciei as they arise. The utmost care will be taken for the protection of ontsettlers. . It » deemed highly probable that precautionary steps will be taken to prevent any hostile demonstration from Parihaka, which will most likely be occupied.
Two charges of perjury were brought against P. K. Salty on behalf of the Stamp Department. One was dismissed and the othef adjourned.
