RESIDENT MAGISTRATE'S COURT
THIS DAY. (Before E. P. Tizard Esq., J.P.) DBUNKENNESS. One native charged with this ofienee pleaded guilty and was discharged. ALLEGED THREATENING LANGUAGE. Michael McMahon was . charged with using threatening language towards one John Murray, at Tapu. Defendant, who was defended by Mr Brassey pleaded not guilty. Mr Miller appeared for plaintiff. | Mr Brassey applied for an adjournment till two o'clock, as he had to attend an inquest. The case was then adjourned till 2 o'clock. ALLEGES ASSAULT. John Murray was charged with asaulting one of his scholars, a lad named Bennett at Tapn. This case was al»o adjonrned till 2 o'clock.

John Murray depoied he wa§ a teacher at Tapu, and on 13th met the defendant at the foot of the creek near Mr Hawkea' home. Defendant stated he had adrisrd Bennett, to summons witness, and if he did, he the defendant would be a witness against him. He also Tolunteered the information thai he (the witness), de«err«d
a —«~ jjood thrashing, and he was very near giving him one then. He accused witness of striking his daughter on the waist, and threatened htm that if he ever did so again, ho would have him out of the school pretty sharp. Witness said how was he going to do it when defendant replied "I would pull you out by the scuff of the neck and give you a good thrashing besides." From the threats used witness felt himself in bodily fear, and asked the Court to cause the defenduut to find sureties to keep the peace towards him. [Left Sitting.]
