These entries promise one of the most successful meetings we hare had on the Thames —at anyrate since we had* Peeress and Magenta showing speed for the Duke of Edinburgh Cup. In scanning the names of the horses wo notice two that competed at the Waikato Turf Club races, viz., Magician aud Matlock. Magician, with Bst., ran second to Mr Lang's Harold, with 7st., for the .Railway Plate Handicap of 40 sots, and won the Consolation Eace. Matlock ran third for the Caralry Plate. Golden Crown, which has recently been purchased by Mr James Walsh of this town is reported to be out of form. Snowstorm is a' Taranaki horse, and is reported to be in good condition, and likely to make hot running for the Purse and the Plate. Old Skylark is in the bands of an old jockey, and looks , very well and fit under his experienced handling. A gentleman who saw him a few mornings ago at Parawai informs us he never looked better. Venus took part in the Thames races last year. She won. the Flying Stakes with Bst 9lbs against Maewa and Hurricane, etoh 9st 21bs. She ran second for the County Plate, being beaten by Skylark, and won the Hurdle race, beating Hurricane by Bor 9 lengths, Parata's Maewa, which is entered for the Publican's Purse alone, showed good going and staying powers. He won the Borough Plate easily—defeating Skylark ' and Venus—-and ran second for the Flying -Stakes and County Plate. Honesty it said to be a Poverty Bay horse with plenty of go in him. jf opportunity offers we may publish a few notes respecting the other hones before the day of the races. Daiiiwjui.
