WAIOTAHI CREEK SCHOOL.
The annual examination took place at the School-house, Waiotahi Creek, this afternoon. ■ There was a good attendance of scholars and their parents and friends. Dr Kilgour presided, and in the course.of his introductory remarks said he had acted as examiner, and gave the scholars great credit for their answers, especially the girls. The prize list was then read bat we hay© not room to give it to-day. The prizes will be distributed at Tararu School in a few weeks. The Chairman also read ft list of the scholars (9 in number) who have taken certificates in music, which he announced will be distributed wilh the other district prizes at the Academy of Music on Monday next. An interesting feature of the proceedings was the presentation to Mr Gray, the late head master, of a handsomely bound copy -"•of Shakespeare — the gift of the Scholars. Mr Gray suitably acknowledged the present. Mr Grigg, the singing master, in a brief speech, acknowledged' the valuable aid rendered by Hits Hamilton in teaching ear-singing to the junior classes, which made his work mnch easier. ■": / '.. ;V" ■'
Mr Brodie made a complimentary y speech, which was most attentively listened to. In the course of the afternoon the scholars were exercised in drill, and also exhibited their musical proficiency in a manner satisfactory to all concerned. "'",.' ■ ■'..
