Kauseranga Boys' School.

DISTKIBUTIOU OP PBIZES.

The annual distribution of prizes took place yesterday afternoon, in the presence of a large assemblage of visitors, friends and relations of the scholars.

Tho programme commenced by the Mayor, jrho occupied the Chair, giving a short address, after which the following were given, the musical portions under the direction of Mr Grigg:—Bound, gang by the first division; recitation by Matter Howard Watkin; song by the infant scholars ; a recitation by Miss B. Watkin; song, "Exercise bone and muscle;" recitation, " Bruce and the Spider," by Master James; singing by the infanta, with accompanying action was very amusing, and reflected great credit on the teachers. A Charade, " Farewell," in which Miss Watkin and Master Blomtield well sustained the principal characters. "My own New Zealand Home" was then sung—solo, duett, and chorus—giving evidence that no pains had been spared by Mr Grigg. Mr Phillips gwe a report of the progress of the Ahool while under his charge, concluding with some good advice to parents and the scholars. The Mayor then presented each child with the prizes awarded to them, making suttablejremarks to'each recipient. After the children had received their books, a presentation was made to Mr Gerring, consisting of a very handsome clock and a set of sleeve-links, front the scholars of the fourth and fifth standards. 80 quietly had the matter been kept from their teacher, that he knew nothing of the proposed presentation till the Mayor, at the request of the head master, stated the facts.

Mr Gerring returned thanks for the present, after which cheers were called for him by one of the senior boys. It is needless to say the request was cordially responded to. Mr Rensbaw addressed the children, and informed them that on Monday next the presentation of the district prizes would take place in the Academy of Music The Mayor during his address referred to the fact that some of the children had obtained the junior certificate for. proficiency in music and singing, giwn by Mr Grigg, and the presentation of the certificates would be made on Monday next. In concluding his remarks, the Mayor said next year he would giro a prise book to the boy who was the best behared and the most respected by his fellow-scholars in the school. adjudged the winner. A similar prise would, be gtren to the girl who was adjudged the best in the school by the same test. This announcement whs received with cheers by the scholars.

" God Save the Queen" was then sang very nicely, after which the risitors retired, and each child was given a dik of cakes and lollies, and ao terminated the year'" school term.
