THE Evening Star. PUBLISHED DAILY AT FOUR O'CLOCK P.M. Resurrexi. SATURDAY, DECEMBER 13, 1879.

The Star, Auckland, has a leader upon the appropriation for the various railway Hues in the colony, ani shows conclusiTely how unfairly Auckland has been treated. In the first instance, for Auckland containing 17 million acres, only £710,900 ii set down, including the amount for iuturo appropriation, while for the provincial districts of Taranaki, Hawkea' Bay, and Wellington the sum of £1,531,000 ia placed on the statement. Comparing amounts for the two islands uo less a sum than £3,269,300 is mentioned as required to complete railway works in the South, and but £2,242,000 for the North, while the number of miles constructed when the above sums are expended will be, South Island 1,642, and Forth 854 miles. We endorse the views of our namesake, and say the A uckland people should take the matter up, and protest against the unfairness of the division of the public money. We would like to ask where are the thirty pieces of silver for which the Auckland Judas' sold their country tnd their friends. Where now is the fair distribution of the public money ? The share of the loan just floated ? or the repayment of the amount justly dv* to Auckland for neglect in the past ? Auckland —as usual by divisions in the camphas been taken advantage of, and has lost by the treacherous conduct of a few of her representatives the only chance she has had for years of getting justice, or a recognition of her claims upon the public chest of the colony. We trust the constituents of the four rats will, in round sefe terms, and in a tangible manner make known their opinions to those gentlemen (!) whose words are not to be depended upon, and who follow not the advice given by the poet: —

" Be just and fear not, Let all the ends th«i aim'st at Be thy country's, thy God's, aud truth's."
