At the Agricultural and Pastoral Association meeting this afternoou, some suggestions were made for the promotion of Colonial industry, and the furtherance of New Zealand manufactures special reference being made to the production of sugar from beet. These matters will be considered at a future meeting. Isaac Burt was charged with assaulting his infant.child on the Ist December, and bruising its arm. From the evidence of the mother it was occasioned through a quarrel between the parents, in the course of which defendant through her down and injured the child in her arms. The Bench considered the chance proved, but as they did not tbink the injury was wilful, they let the defendant off on payment of £i 17s 6d, costs.
