Saturday night.
Tho steamer Tui, bouud to Wauganui; which left at 11 o'clock last night, struck od tho west ledge of Chaffers Passage about one o'clock this morning. From several statements made great confusion took place on board. The passengers, seven in number, and the whole crew wero landed with tome difficulty. They at once went to the Pilot Station, and the pilot immediately went to the wreck in his boat, and tho cargo was landed immediately, when the* steamer, having been ascertained to hare received but little damage, was launched from the rocks and steamed up Evans' Bay to the slip. Meanwhile the Hinemoa had been dispatched to the assistance of the disabled steamer, but on reaching the scene, it was found she wns quite safe. Little damage has been done to the vessel, which is owned b; Messrs Kebblc, beagar and Co., and is insured for £'ICO. The vessel is noiv on the slip and all necessary repairs will be completed in a fortnight. • The Netr Zealand Loan and Mercantile Afjcncy report under date London, 19:— Wool: sales opened with spirit on the 18th. The stock comprised about 80,000 bales. 303 bales hare been sent to tho manufacturing district. Homo buyers arc purchasing freely. Greasy wool has advanced Id per pound since the close of last sale. Superior combing, washed and scoured have advanced -|d to 2d per lb. Clothing washed has advanced Id per lb; medium and inferior greasy havo advanced |d to Id per lb; crossbred greasy has advanced Id per lb; superior cembing, washed and scoured has odranced 2d to 3d per lb. Lambs' wool market is easier. Tallow: The market is quiet, stocks of all sorts are about £14 ss. Casks of the best mutton is worth £13 per ton, and best beef £4,0. Wheat market is flat. Foreign arrivals are heavy. Adelaide is worth CO.* per 4961b5, New Zealand is worth 58s per 49t!l!>s. Mr Whiting, who retires from position pf Overseer of Corporation Works, was today presented with an address and tea and coffee service, value £25.
