Parliamentary Gossip.

[Bt Telegraph.]

(FKOM A eOKKESPOSDBNT).

Wellington, This day.

It is rumoured the Opposition intend to move a direct Want of Confidence motion on the Financial proposals.

Speight's statement yesterday in the House that Whitaker is directly interested in the railway to Kopu only, is causing comment, and it it is likely a question will be asked in the Upper House this afternoon.

It is said that telegrams will be published showing the cause of (ho Auckland Herald's change in politics, also the proprietors' instructions to their Wellington correspondent to cook reports.

There is great dissatisfaction amongst the merchants, as ii is stated that the friends of the Government got intimation of the addition to taxation, and on Monday cleared tho bonds of tobacco and spirits to a large extent.

There can be no reduction in Miners' Rights for the Thames, which is another handicap for the district. The Government, trusting to their strength, are refusing all applications for money, so that during the recess they may exercise patronage.

The County is co operating with the Borough in laying the claims of the district before CJovernmcnt.

Mr Shcohan is to ask if the Government intend to place a sum on the estimates so us to enablo the reduction in Miners' Eights to apply to the Thames. This is tiie onlj' course, as the fees are going now to the natives; also at the request of the Mayor, for money for the High School, aud an amendment of the Act.
