Last night. A fuU ringed ship is off tbe coast, supposed to be the ship Waikato, 98 days out, from London with immigrants. Sailed : Wellington for the South. Passengers for Wellington—Mr and Mrs Adams and daughter, Marks, ForsLer, Campters, five natives. For KelsonMr and Mrs Andrews. For Picton —Mr Wason. For Lyttclton—Lorenzo Vohastrinee. For Dunedin—Riche, Hughes. George Williams was brought down from Eirerhead to the hospital, haviug accidentally shattered his leg, A. E. Isaacs was elected Captain, and S. C. Caulton Lieutenant, of the new battery of Artillery. A concert in aid of tho organ fund of the Choral Society has been held. It is contemplated to get an organ at a cost of from £500 to £1000. At a meeting of the creditors of Georgo
Buchanan, master mariner, the liabilities were set down at £123, assets, nominal, £15 ; h'so of Daniel Jiynn, holelkcitper, Coromnndel, liabilities £270, assets £130.
Tlio following petition, signed by 160 raon, vrnsi forwarded through Mr Stark to Wellington :—"To W. Swansea, M.U.K., J. A. Tote, M.H.It., and all the otli'-r Auckland representatives.—The undersigned, unemployed men of Auckland, do hereby petition you to use your influence with the Government to commence some public works immediately, so as lo flnd employment for us, whereby we can earn a subsistence for oursolves and families. We are and have been walking the streets in enforced idleness, fully expecting the commencement of the works at Newmarket. Trusting you will bring pressure to bear upon Government to open sorao works at once to afford us relief." Mr Stnr'k submitted the matter to the Mayor before forwarding the petition, and he promised to do everything in his power to promote its object.
