I Another of those nauseous matches — a Chinaman wedding an English woman. Under, the heading of Marriage we noticed t!ie following announcement in a Christehurch paper: — "Ah Shee—Eastou.—October 30, by the B-ev Charles Fraser, Chong Ah Shee (late of Canton, China), of Wright's Buildings, Lichfield street, to Henrietta Sophia, fourth daughter of David Easton, formerly of Beading, England." There ia no " Home papers please copy" affixed to the notice. With what beaming eyes the friends of the bride at "Beading, England," would peruse the nboTe particulars! There is something repulsive in these mixed marriages whenever the male belongs .to a dark-skinned race which, somehow or other does not exist when the European blood is on the other side. And the prejudice, if prejudice it may be called, is stronger when it is a Chinamun who leads an English woman to the hymeneal altar. The feeling is lessened somewhat in the case of a Maori or an African.' The " yellow agony " has always taken firmer hold than others of a darker tint; The habiti of the race hare earned this. i
