WELLINGTON.
Last night
James McKerron, Esq., has been appointed Surveyor-General and Inspector of Surveys, vice J. Thompson, Esq., resigned ; and R. P. Goulter, .Fsq.. as Sub-Assistant Surveyor in Survey Department. The s.s. Zealandia with the London outward mails of 9lh October sailed from Snn Francisco of 271h September, contract date. The s.s. City of Sydney with (he New Zealand homeward mails of 14th October arrived at San Francisco on 4th inst., being two dnys in advance of con tract date.
The cable steamer is still awaiting a favorable wind to work at the cable.
The Government steamer Ilinemoa leaves for Christchurch this evening with several members of the Legislature who purpose visiting the Christchurch Agricultural Show.
A man named Bloom was arrested at Christchurch for obtaining £50 worth of jewellry from Newman, a jeweller. He was brought up at the Court, and remanded.
