Last night. * The Telegraph Department anticipate the final repairs to the cable to be completed to-morrow. The ship Wairoa, 109 days from London, with 209 passengers, arrived in the harbor this afternoon. Owing to seyeral cases of measles and scarlatina baring broken out recently, she has been placed in quarantine. One infant died this morning from the former disease, and during the Toy age one second and one third class passenger died of pulmonary disease. The passage was a fine weather one, and uueTentful. She brings a, large general cargo. Arrived: Bobin Hood, from Newcastle, Wellington from the South, Taiaroa from Picton an* Kelson.
Sailed: • Taiarpa for • the South. Cleared out, Sarah Pile, bridantino for Kaipara, Southern Cross for Auckland, ria East Coast.
The Petitions Committee hare come to a decision in MeMurdo's petition against Lmckie. The decision is that the manner of McMurdo'i dismissal was harsh, bat that he deserred to be cUsnisied, and has no claim for redress. ■ - ■,
