NEW PLYMOUTH.
Last night. The Supreme Court was opened today by Judge Gillies. There were two cases— Evans for shooting his wife, and Kichard Wilton for house breaking. The charge against Evans was the only case heard today, when the Jury returned a rerdict of " Not guilty, 1' and the ■prisoner was discharged. The other case will be heard to-morrow or Saturday. Two appeal eases were heard. In the case of Tucker r. Guthrie and Larnach the decision of the Resident Magistrate was reversed. The question at issue was the liability of Guthrie and Larnach, owners a schooner, for medical and other expenses incurred by the captain of the schooner, who became ill while the vessel was in Fort Waitara. After hearing arguments of counsel, His Honor upheld the appeal, and reserved his decision. It is reported that a half-caste who is in the A. C. Force at Opunaie caught the infection prevailing at Parihaka and died.
