Lost night. Breach of Promise Case.

At tho Civil Sittings of the Supremo Court, Mary Craddock David sued James Taylor Hirst, a tanner, of .Wellington, for breath of promise of marriage^ claiming £1000 damages. The plaintiff stated she had been employed as house, keeper to tbe defendant when he proposed and she accepted him. Defendant did not appear, nnd tho jury gave a verdict for £400 and costs.

The executive officers of the friendly societies of Dunedin, after considering tho new railway by-law, which makes it imperative on all employed in department to join the liaihvay Benefit Society, resolved to wait on Mr O'onyers or to communicate with him by letter with the view of having tho grievance redressed.
