Last night.

Yesterday the Borough Council Submitted for a poll of the ratepayers, the question as to street levels to be adopted. There were three levels submitted for decision. First one—Napier Bell's plan of drainage, wh'.ch would not involve raising the, streets higher than at present; second—Borough Engineer's plan, by which the streets would be raised eight inches ; and third—Borough Council's proposal to raise the lowest streets 17 inches higher. The ratepayers decided by a very large majority in favor of Napier Bell's plan. Tho synod of the diocese of Waiapu was opened this afternoou with a large attendance of the clergy and laity. Bishop tStuart, in his address spoke in feeling terms of the death of the late Her. W. Grace who was with the Itev. Mr Volkner when the latter was murdered by the Hauhaus at Opotiki.
