This day. Gold Discovery at * Havolock.
Private advice states at Flat Creek near Hovelock there are twenty-three men ill
getting payable gold. The god is ™«Khi and some oF the pieces are as large as hazel nuts. Government Caucus. The Government held a meeting of supporters today, with the view of seeing if some compromise between the Government and Opposition cannot be come to. Carl Peters was charged at the instance of the law Society with preparing n bill of sale, and receiving a fee for the same. Defendant pleaded informality, saying as the offence was committed on April 10, and the information wns only laid on October 10, the proceedings were a day too late. The Magistrate held the objection fatal. Preparations are being made to put a new piece of cable on board the Agnes when she arrives. Opposition Tactics. The Opposition meeting 10-day discussed the advisability of refusing all Supplies in order to compel the Government to face the no-coufldence motion^ Dr Lemon tested the cable to-day and found the insulation rather better than when placi d in the tanks in 1876.
