AUCKLAND.

This day.

At the sitting of the Supreme Court in Banco to-day, Mabin was ordered at the suit of the Phoenix Insurance Company to render an account of all his dealings and moneys received in connection with it, as well as to produce all books relating thereto.

James Vaughan, pedestrian of Eeeftou, lias challenged O'Connor, now of Auckland and formerly of Timaru to run him a mile for any sum not less than £300 a side or more than £500, the challenger being willing to come to Auckland if terms can be arranged. O'Connor will accept the challenge if he can find backers. There is every probability of the money being forthcoming. A mile race for £25 a side has been arranged between McGinley of Auckland, and X.. Koth of Christchurch. The match is fixed for the 15th prox.

A telegram has been received from the Premier stating the Government have no power to detain the Minister of Marine. Chaplin and Miss Osborue quietly left by the mail steamer yesterday, unknown to De Lias. Eichard the Third had been announced for performance in the evening, but of course without the principals the company could not appear. The city of Sydney is the vessel of which Miss Osborne's husband was the poner. So it is quite evident the departure was carefully planned.
