Last night. The case of Arihi v. Kusscll and others, was heard at the Supreme Court to day. This ease was an appeal from the decision of the Trust Commissioner at Napier, under the Native Land Frauds Prevention Act. In the year l«70, Arihi Te Nairn, a native woman, one of the grantees of the Hereatanga Block at Napier, conveyed her share to Messrs J. N. Wilson and
Purvis .Russell'upon certain trusts, substsqueuily Arihi ami her trustees conveyed her share to gentlemen known in Napier as Ihe twelve apostlea. Somo months ntfo Arihi cxeonted a deed of confirmation of her previous conveyances, and on the sale of the land, this deed of confirmation was submitted to tho Trust Commissioner for his approval. The trustees Wilson and Russell opposed, but the Trust Commissioner granted his certificate under the Frauds Prevention Act. The trustees now appealed. The case is not concluded. Messenger agrees providing his expenses be paid, and the stakes be £100. It is probable the conditions will be accepted. The Artillery held the annual dinner last night. There was a Urge attendance. Colonel Whitmore, in addressing them said 2000 snider rifles would shortly arrive in the colony.
