The Bey. S. J. Neill will continue his course of lrctures at the Presbyterian Church, to-morrow evening. The Thames Naval Brigade hold their usual monthly church parade to morrow. At the R.M. Court this morning, before H. Kenrick Esq., B.&L t one inebriate was fined 5s and costs. This was all the business. A Thames gcntlemanyesterday received a telegram from a prominent member of the Opposition, stating that the Ministry were sure to be defeated. It is said that a branch of the American Order of Oddfellows will be opened on the Thames within a few weeks. Aon eting will be called of those gentlemen resident oh the Thames who are at present members of that order, and of those willing to join tbe new lodge. We are informed that one night last week, some person or persons unknown, shut off tbe connection between tbe water mains in Eolleston and Mary streets with the Pollen street main, and no water was available in these streets tiil six o'clock next morning. Had a fire broken out the consequence might bave been serious The police have the matter in band, and persons found interfering with tbe water valves will be severely punished. The Waxworks Exhibition at • the Pacific Hotel continues as popular as ever, there being a large number of visitors at the show last evening. Many of the figures are most natural likenesses of the personages they represent, especially tbose of the Rev. Mr Spurgeon and Constance Kent. All the patrons of the show appeared well satisfied with the presents, especially those who were lucky enough to obtain the more valuable gifts. To-night a number of useful presents will be distributed, including several bags of flour. A BMAiL boy was last evening detected robbing the till of Mr Henry Peck, confectioner, Brown street. Tbe youthful delinquent was detected by a person outside the shop, and as the urchin came out exulting in the possession of five stolen sixpences, he was captured and made to disgorge. We understand that the original lessees of the allotments eccupicd by the Bright Smile Goldmining Company are to be called upon to pay a large sum for rent by the owner of the allotments, Mr .Robert Graham. We hear that Sir Eobert Douglas was one of the scrutineers at the Marsden election, and the croohetty gentleman took advantage of his position to' swear every elector who recorded his vote, His Worship the Mayor of Auckland included. We have good authority for stating that Mr James Mackay has received instructions to proceed to the Thames as Special Native Commissioner, clothed with power to deal with the Ngatihako difficulty. Mr Mackay will be here about Tuesday next. As I am going extensively into the mnsical instrument line, I am prepared to sell off my large stock of Iron Bedsteads, plain and fancy door-mats, &c, teet cheat. —J.
