Last night.
Mx Watts has decided to hold a magisterial inquiry into the circumstance connected with the recent fire at Ross' building, having stated his intention of doing so at the Police Court this morning. Inspector Mallard said that he would have to consult the Crown Prosecutor before taking any action in the matter. The case will be commenced at the gaol at noon on Monday. In the Supreme Court today Judge Williams gave judgment to the case of New Zealaud and Australian Land Co. t. McGregor, allowing defendants demurrer with cost. Leave was given for appeal.
The first meeting of the creditors of Gifford Moore and James Lees of Oamaru, was held in the Supreme Court today, when John Lemon was appointed creditors' trustee. Debts amounting to £500 were passed, and from the statement of the bankrupts it appeared thut oat of their liabilities £25CD had been secured.
Dr Grant and Professor Wallenburg, oculists, aurists, and specialists, have effected some marvellous cures in blindness and deafness since their arrival here.
The Jones' Illusionists, are showing to crowded houses.
